The Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP system is continuously evolving, with Microsoft constantly adding new functionalities and technologies to the product. Microsoft’s policy is to release two major product versions each year and a minor version every month. The user interface does not change significantly from one version to another, so as a Business Central user, it is not always obvious which product version you are working with.
If you have purchased Business Central On-Premises, this version remains constant over time. If you want to upgrade to a newer version, you need to request an update from your support partner. If you are using Business Central Cloud from Microsoft, product updates occur automatically, ensuring that you always have the latest version.
Why is it important to know your product version? Because in the communication provided by Elian Solutions or in documentation available online (from Microsoft or other partners), references are made to functionalities that only became available starting with a specific product version. As a result, some features may not yet be available in your database.
How to check which Business Central version you are using. To determine which Business Central version you are working with, follow these steps:
In the user interface, click on the question mark icon located in the upper-right corner of the page:
A panel will open on the right-hand side with multiple links. Under the “Other resources” section, select “Help & Support”:
The Help & Support page will open, and the information you need can be found under the “Troubleshooting” section.
In the example from the image above, the Business Central version is 25.3 (where 25 represents the major version, and 3 is the minor version). However, the version number does not indicate the release date of that Business Central version. If you want to find out when a version was launched, refer to the table below:
